Richards December Reflections
20 Dec 2018 | Sophie McKeown | 0 Comments
Hi
2018, where did that go? I can honestly say I’ve never known a year fly past at such a rate. Maybe it’s because I’m getting older.
However in 10 years’ time how will we look back at the year?
Certainly it was one of great sporting success. The national football team won a penalty shootout and got to the semi-finals of a world cup, another Britain won the Tour De France, the ladies netball team beat the Aussies to netball gold, Lewis Hamilton was a convincing world champion in a car that arguably wasn’t the fastest and so on.
It will also certainly be remembered for a fabulous summer, the warmest since 1976 (which I can remember!), but nowadays we’re not all that sure if a long hot summer is a good thing or not? Remember the ‘Beast from the East’? We had our share of cold weather too.
The elephant in the room is obviously Brexit. I have written about this over the past couple of years or so and we are no nearer understanding exactly what Brexit will look like. Will Teresa May’s deal eventually be accepted by Parliament? Will there be a no-deal Brexit? Will there even be another referendum? I really don’t know. My gut feel is that something will happen at the last minute which will allow some sort of orderly Brexit, but right now I don’t know where it will come from, fingers crossed.
There can be no doubt that our market has been held back by the uncertainty created by Brexit and whilst that might not be the best news in terms of short term business results and planning it has at least allowed the local search TATs to improve again. The averages for both Personal and Official searches improving to their best figures for at least 12 months. “Every cloud……..” as they say.
However there are still Authorities where the TAT is higher than expected. It should be noted that Stratford upon Avon’s problems are due to their new system being introduced which will ensure that their TAT is reduced to 10 days in the future, so they say!

All that remains is to thank you for your business this year, we really do appreciate it and to wish you and your family a very happy Christmas and to send my best wishes for 2019. Who knows what it will bring? Perhaps a bit of certainty or am I being overly optimistic?
See you on the other side, have a good one.
Richard
